Home At Last

I have left the valley and arrived back at home in Fort Worth. I left the warm, windy Mercedes, TX area and arrived to 34 mornings and 55 afternoons. Less golf and cooler temps but I am home.

The RV is possibly sold. The man that was interested in the rv has had a walk thru, drive and indicated that he will go to his bank. Hopefully this is the case and its sold.

All of this means that this travel blog now comes to an end. We are back home and will not be traveling. Shirley must work and I will not travel by myself again. The rv is either bought by the person noted or is going to Motorhome Specialists again.

We had a very good time, saw lots of places and things not normally visited or seen any other way.

Be safe as you travel and enjoy the sights.

Good bye from the two of us.

More Boats, Lets go Fishing

Shirley took these pics of the boats at Port Isabel. They have a rather large fleet of boats that go into the gulf and "shrimp" fish. Here are a couple of pics of some of the boats

The first pic has a boat with all of its rigging that is necessary to fish for the shrimp. I'll tell you just what I know about this kind of fishing. They use nets. Just how they use the nest I don't know but my guess is the nets are pulled by the boats and drag the sea bottom.

They don't drag the nets just any place but where the shrimp "beds" are. These fishermen and probably fisherwomen know where the beds are from years of experience. Even Forrest Gump knew that. Just watch the movie!

This last pic of the boats is subject to your interpretation. I would say that the fist pic of the boat says the boat is sea worthy.

The second pic of the boat is well lets say its lacking. If you ever had a yearning to get into business for yourself and fishing was your choice, then here is your chance. For the right price and don't get carried away with to high of an offer, this boat can be had. Yea its a "fixer upper" but its a start.

New Years Pic's On Our Trip To South Padre Is

A harbor boat storage and repair with a sail boat in dry dock. This was the largest that we saw out of the water here. This was at Port Isabel.

Its a nice looking boat and it looked ready to be put back in the water for use.

This appears to be an oil tanker going from Brownsville back to the gulf. My friend Shirley took this and we were about 3/4 of a mile away. The ship is moving if you can tell by the bow wave. This was the only large vessel we saw. And I mean large.

We have more pics to show in the next days of our little excursion to Brownsville, the ship channel, Port Isabel and South Padre Island.

Its a cold day at 57 with overnight low of 43, forecast was 38, and a north wind of 10-15 gusty to 22 so far. Gas here has jumped to $1.69.9 and diesel higher. All this week the weather is cooler and this is the winter here. Once this "winter" has gone it will warm up quickly. I will start watching the weather back home after the middle of Feb for my 2 day trip north to Fort Worth.

The Winter Here is Approaching

As I recall the winter here is about 2 weeks long and should start soon. For you that are in knee deep white stuff, it was 78 today. We had a cool day this week but its just a single day long. the weather here is just fantastic and will be for a few more days.

The other blog on Urban Living had some days and postings deleted to for personal reasons.

My "friend" came and went and is back working 10 hour days and putting in 6-7 days a week again. Hopefully some of this will end this Friday with the passing of a deadline. Hopefully!

Not much else to add. Gas has gone up to $1.59.9 with the happenings in the Middle East. If your looking for a peace over there, just keep looking as there will never be one. Not because I say so but because its so written. Look it up and get your own opinion of the conflict.

Nothing else to add except it sure is nice weather here.

Oh Darn, My Guest is Leaving

She has had all of the valley she can take. Its windy, we did find some decent food, windy and a trip to Brownsville and SPI. She has made two trips here so its only fair that she go golf 9 holes. The wind was 10-15 with gusts when we left, I looked, BUT it was 25-30 with 36 mph gusts while we played. I did not loose any golf balls. They probably just didn't go far enough to get lost or go swimming.

After that we had a McD late lunch of 1/4 pounders and a soda. Now I remember why I hate McD food. We came back to the RV for rest and tv and computer game. And the wind continued on till late evening as its finally getting more calm. The forecast for today was lighter winds in the afternoon which went the other way. Hay, its the valley!

My guest will leave tomorrow around 11:30 and fly away again. I will be making the return trip come late Feb or on the 1st of March. Time will tell. Current plans are to stay at the rest stop south of San Antonio after a 5 hour drive. From there its a 6 hour drive to home. But plans usually are changed as we go. Gas stop is where ever the price is right and I can get into and out of with a tow.

I Have A Guest

My guest came by plane on the 1st of the year and arrived about 10:15 am. So far we have been going, going and eating out, and eating out. Today it was a trip to Brownsville and South Padre Island. We traveled about 100 miles and got back about 4 pm. Was a long day. Bright side is gas was $1.35.9 and $25 on the scratch-off. Bought four more and got home and have $25 more to cash in. The profit disappeared into a purse somehow. Tomorrow is the day to get propane as the tank reading is about zero. Full was the 3/4 mark so we will see what is left when its filled.

The winds forecast for today are here. Not to bad. Windy at 20 mph with a gust to 28 at the Mid Valley airport which is close by. Suppose to be much calmer tomorrow and Sunday. Since Shirley has made two trips down here, she gets to go golf with me tomorrow. Only playing 9 holes so its about 2 hours. But we have to get the propane first before we go do anything.

Gas at Port Isabelle is $1.53.9 and diesel is higher. Gas along the US83 expressway is running $1.36.9 to $1.38.9. Our next fron is Sunday night and into Monday with highs of 60's. Tuesday is forecast to be mid 70's.
